As a digital marketing expert, people often ask me how they can grow their Instagram following. Lately, I’ve been telling them about the latest trend: Instagram Reels. Reels allow you to share bite-sized, engaging information with your followers. By using this feature, you can create short, 3 to 15-second video clips that you can add filters and music to.
I’m currently coaching a client who is a nurse. She’s creating an online coaching program for nurses who are experiencing burnout because they’re so busy caring for everyone else that they’ve neglected self-care. She posted a quick Instagram Reel where she answered the question: “How do you not feel selfish putting yourself before sick patients?”
The video went viral and received over 4 million views. It caused her to gain thousands of followers who she can now talk and engage with. After she experienced this level of success just by making a simple video, I did some research and created a list of the six key benefits of Instagram Reels.
1 They’re an enticing way to spread awareness of your brand
In this digital age we’re living in, our attention spans are only getting shorter. With so much content available at our fingertips, research tells us that people only pay attention for 7 to 8 seconds. Users are drawn toward bite-size info, which makes Instagram Reels the perfect mechanism to get the attention of our target audiences.
Instagram Reels are very entertaining because you can put music behind them. By using popular music, you’re more likely to get more engagement. In your videos, you can offer tips for other people in your industry, a new product you’re rolling out, or a behind-the-scenes quick look at your company.
2 They can help you get your content on the ‘Explore’ page
Instagram Reels get pushed to the ‘Explore’ page for people who don’t follow you to see. If you get enough engagement, Instagram will push your Reel to the ‘Explore’ tab where other users can potentially see your content. This process leads to more people becoming aware of your brand and the content you’re sharing in the video.
Then, you should push people to a call to action, like clicking on the link in your bio, signing up for something free you’re offering, or making a purchase.
3 Reels can help you gain more followers
Any time Facebook or Instagram rolls out a new feature, they reward the users who use it. They do all they can to promote it among users because it will probably be a paid feature eventually. Reels are the new thing and it doesn’t cost money to get play yet, so take advantage of them!
If you upload a Reel to your account, it will most likely be pushed to your followers’ ‘Explore’ pages and the Reels tab. This will increase your engagement and grow your following without spending money.
4 You can save time because creating Reels is simple
It’s much easier to make a video on the platform and add text than to take the perfect photo, design a graphic and upload it. There are fewer steps involved when you create content this way.
You still want to be strategic with what you post and plan out your posts with a compelling message for your followers.
5 Reels show your personality
Reels are a great way to show your personality because it’s typically you or your staff who are in them. Reels allow you to humanize the brand behind your logo and help people see who the people are who make up your brand. People relate to other people more than they relate to companies. Use Reels to help your customers see a more personal side to your business.
6 You can push content across multiple platforms
Like any content you create, you should be pushing your Reels across multiple platforms to get the most out of it. You can save your Reel and post it on Facebook and Tik Tok, or even your website if that makes sense. The best marketers push their content across every platform. Just because someone sees your post on Instagram doesn’t mean they’ll see it on Tik Tok, so repurpose your content to get as much traction as you can.
Reels are the key factor for organic reach on Instagram. They don’t disappear after 24 hours like Stories do, and you don’t have to pay for people to see them. Instagram has the highest engagement rate of all social media platforms, so you should take advantage of that.
Remember not to overthink your content. If you have an idea that you think your audience will care about, post it. Don’t overthink it if some videos perform really well and others don’t — that’s just the nature of social media. The most important thing is to be as authentic as you can on social media so you can connect with your audience.
